Is there any way where the Urwid widgts and the Urwid screen occupies only
half of the screen and the rest of the screen displays the normal termianl

Yes, use a Pile() for the whole screen, put a box widget in the top half and a Terminal() widget in the bottom half. The Terminal() widget emulates a vt220.
